Oh giddy, Sydney, we got a shiny new night.
FBi is looking after your after-five, kicking off a brand new event starting 6pm Fridays. Pot Luck is a weekly taste of Sydney's tickly art under-belly, and will feature all kinds of cuteness and creativity. Expect zine stalls, bingo and bands, as well as art installations, astronomers and crafternoons. FBi's Creative Director and all around honey, Alice Fenton, gave us the low-down down-low.
FBi: If this was your lucky day, what would be in your dream pot?
Alice: GOLD! And pasta. I mean vegetables. And peace for all.
Putting on An Event in Sydney always seems like a big undertaking, but Pot Luck seems aimed at helping the little guys take up some space. Is this the aim of your game?
Yes it's a way for people to show off what they make and do without having to worry about all the trickier bits of event making, like booking DJs and bands, coordinating the sound guy, door person, flag waver etc. The other aim is to give people who might not have the time or inclination to schlep about visiting many galleries, venues or theatres a small taste of what's happening out there in Sydney. So really it's a night for lazy people, and let's face it - on a Friday night that's pretty much everyone.
What events can we expect to see at Pot Luck in the future?
Next week we're having a mini zine fair with Beefknuckles, Lee Tran Lam, Jonathan Valenzuela and Lisa Lerkenfeldt all hosting stalls while Sister Jane provides the soundtrack. The one after, Kit Palaskas is going to school people in craft making while The Bungalows and Tyson Koh take care of everyone's ears. On September 9th we're having an 'astrologia' night, featuring astronomers, astrologers and poets who write about astronomy, then the week after we're holding a screening to showcase the Captured project. Further down the line we have Das Superpaper, Ampersand and Penguin Plays Rough curating nights too, and we're working on EVEN MORE. If anyone out there wants to get involved they can drop me a line (alice@fbiradio.com).
Dizzy with anticipation? There SEATS to sit on too!
